Switch was founded in 2018 on the back of academic research that explored the integration of energy trading and smart grid technology into the South African energy system. The founders translated key research findings into what Switch has become today; a market leading utility solutions technology company.
Our software and hardware solutions are built in-house by our team of engineers and developers. This gives us complete control and reduces the risk of 3rd party failures affecting our operations.
We differentiate ourselves by being adaptable and able to customise software for the unique needs of our clients. Our approach entails engaging and working closely with clients to understand their needs so that we can build valuable solutions that make real impact.

Andrew Murray
CEO
Andrew has spent the last 7 years researching and working in the renewable energy and smart utility management space. His master’s thesis (Cum Laude) explored the South African energy transition and the integration of energy trading and wheeling management technology using strategic niche management, and multi-level perspective frameworks.

Daniel Hewlett
COO
Daniel has worked at Switch since 2019 and has primarily been responsible for the front-end development of the Switch mobile App and web-based administration console. While his primary role is as a developer, his intimate involvement since the company’s inception have equipped him to guide the product development and business strategy.

Heinrich De Lange
CTO
Heinrich has over 7 years’ experience as a CTO and director, managing hardware and software engineering teams of up to 40 people. His expertise is in high-level technology advisory and planning as well as project planning and management. His master’s thesis involved developing an energy trading system architecture using blockchain technology.

Business Operations
Chido is a seasoned Energy Efficiency and Sustainability professional with over a decade of experience in the utilities management and metering sector.
Chido plays a critical role in managing Switch business operations and customer success and is currently expanding her knowledge through certification in Sustainable and Renewable Energy.

Lowku Leeuwner
Hardware Engineer
Lowku’s primary role at Switch entails hardware development primarily associated with modem design and manufacturing. He also plays a key role in the backend development and project management, assisting with ensuring that hardware and software function in harmony and can be managed and controlled via the Switch Admin console. Lowku’s thesis focused on demand side management solutions.

With more than a decade of experience in software development, Pablo has built a career around creating innovative digital experiences. His technical expertise covers modern web technologies, cloud infrastructure, and full-stack development.
Pablo's approach at Switch combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, focusing on data visualization, micro-interactions, motion design, and enhanced user experiences.
Guy Paterson-Jones
Back-end Developer
Guy’s input and focus is on building the energy trading software and backend infrastructure to enable Switch’s advanced energy allocation and reconciliation engine. Before joining Switch, Guy worked at Luno, where he worked on the exchange backend
managing the APIs and order-book infrastructure.

Max Paterson-Jones
Front-end Developer
Max primarily works on the frontend UI for the Switch admin console, mobile app, and energy trading platform. He plays a important role in creating a simple yet highly advanced and functional user experience. Moulting the complex engineering into seemingly simple tools for end users.

Josh Dippenaar
Advisor
Josh's professional focus is on renewable energy, electricity markets and generator grid integration. For the last 7 years he has provided technical support to over 100 electric utilities and regulators to integrate renewable energy technologies into their grids.
Josh has been instrumental in the development of the NERSA wheeling rules and has worked closely with municipalities to implement wheeling policies and frameworks. Josh plays an important role in guiding the Switch energy trading product development, and in ensuring municipalities and energy traders
